Phone Counselor

Location: Bel Air, MD

The Sante Group seeks a PRNs (Scheduled as Needed) Phone Counselor to join our Harford County Crisis Response System! The Phone Counselor will respond to calls received on the 24/7 Crisis Response and Resource Helpline, performing telephone triage and assessment of crisis calls, linkage to resources, dispatch of mobile crisis teams, police and other providers, and documentation in Electronic Case Records. This individual is also responsible for providing goal-directed counseling and crisis planning, and for following up with clients through the CRS process until discharge.  This is an excellent opportunity with a leading non-profit organization in Maryland.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field of study; or three (3) years of proven experience in crisis work.  Expertise with special populations can be substituted for academic credentialing and/or years of crisis work experience.
  • Knowledge of Internet and Microsoft Office software (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook). Must be able to be trained on Electronic Consumer Record software.
  • Must be able to work individually as well as within a team. Must be able to multi-task. Must be able to work with “high-risk” consumers who have mental illnesses as well as developmental and physical disabilities 
  • As we operate as a 365 day per year service, Phone Counselors must be available for day, evening, weekend and holiday shifts, as scheduled. While every effort may be made to create a schedule that meets the individual staff person’s needs, the schedule is created first and foremost to meet the needs of the program.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform rapid assessment and triage of callers’ behavioral, substance use, and co-occurring disorder crises, including suicide risk assessments
  • Complete Intake and Assessment, obtaining necessary contact information for clients and documenting accurate demographic information in Electronic Case Record
  • Obtain necessary contact information for clients and document accurate demographic information in client case
  • Effectively triage calls to the appropriate level of care or intervention
  • Conduct lethality assessments of clients and dispatch appropriate resources (police, EMT, MCT) when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned.
